NILDS, RMFAC Strengthen Internal Governance Through Capacity Building Workshop

National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), in collaboration with the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC), held a capacity building workshop for members of the Commission’s Business and Rules Committee, aimed at strengthening internal governance, procedural compliance and institutional efficiency.

The workshop, held at the Institute’s headquarters in Abuja, brought together members of the Committee, management staff, and resource persons to examine strategies for enhancing institutional effectiveness, improving decision making processes, and promoting sound fiscal governance.

Speaking at the opening session, the Director General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, emphasized the importance of continuous capacity development in strengthening public institutions and improving governance outcomes. He noted that the evolving fiscal and economic environment requires public institutions to continually strengthen their internal systems, promote accountability, and adopt innovative approaches to delivering on their statutory mandates.

Prof. Sulaiman observed that the Business and Rules Committee plays a vital role in ensuring effective institutional governance through adherence to established procedures, transparency, and sound decision-making. He expressed confidence that the workshop would equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to enhance institutional performance and service delivery.

The Executive Chairman of RMFAC, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, OFR, who was represented at the workshop, commended the collaboration with NILDS and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

The workshop featured technical sessions facilitated by experts from NILDS on fiscal federalism, constitutional and legal frameworks, procedural compliance, legislative oversight, project monitoring, and the application of digital tools to institutional governance.

The workshop is expected to generate practical recommendations that will strengthen internal governance, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce transparency and accountability within the Commission.
