Core areas of work

Five bodies of work through which the Institute supports and strengthens the legislature in pursuit of the ideals of democratic governance.

Approach

Through research, advocacy, teaching, networking and allied activities, NILDS seeks to promote and reinforce the constitutionally assigned roles and functions of parliamentary institutions.

The Institute works to support and strengthen the legislature in pursuit of the ideals of democratic governance. Its programmes reach members and staff of the National Assembly, of the State Houses of Assembly, and of legislatures across the ECOWAS sub-region.

NILDS is increasingly building an international reputation based on the quality of its work and on a commitment to applying academic skill to real-world challenges — legislation as it is actually drafted, budgets as they are actually scrutinised.

Delivery

Each core area is delivered by a department

The five core areas describe what the Institute does. The eleven departments describe who does it — their scope of work, divisions and units are set out on each department page.
