Legislative drafting, bill analysis and direct technical support to committees of the National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly and the ECOWAS Parliament.

Responsible for the quality and effectiveness of the laws that pass through the National Assembly.
The Department discharges the Institute's core responsibilities, providing legislative assistance to members of the legislature. It is headed by a Director, with two divisions headed by Deputy Directors, and a team of researchers and legislative drafters serving the National Assembly, the State Houses of Assembly and the ECOWAS Parliament.
Functions & impact
Supported the development and monitoring of the Agenda of the 7th, 8th and 9th House of Representatives.
Supported the review and reform of the Laws of the Federation, drafting over 200 amendment bills.
Provided quarterly budget implementation reports to relevant committees.
Supported the development of the National Conference of Rules and Business Committees.
Conducted institutional needs assessments of the National Assembly and State Assemblies to guide intervention programmes.
Provided technical support to the Committee on Revising the Standing Rules of the House of Representatives.
Advocates for appreciation of the legislative arm of government among secondary school students through the National Quiz Competition. Learn more ›
