NILDS Builds MTN Nigeria Staff Capacity On Policy, Legislative Analysis

26 Aug 2026 10:52 am

National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) held a two-day Capacity Building Workshop on Strengthening Policy and Legislative Analysis for staff of MTN Nigeria’s Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs Department.

The workshop provided a platform for NILDS and MTN Nigeria to deepen collaboration in legislative affairs, public policy, and regulatory engagement, while promoting evidence-based policymaking and democratic governance.

Welcoming participants, Director General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, commended MTN Nigeria for partnering with the Institute to strengthen institutional capacity in the telecommunications sector.

He noted that with telecommunications playing a critical role in Nigeria’s digital economy, a better understanding of the legislative and policy environment was essential to promoting innovation, investment, and sustainable national development.

Prof. Sulaiman further highlighted the growing policy implications of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, 5G, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and big data.

He stressed the importance of stronger collaboration among lawmakers, regulators, academia, and industry players in developing responsive legislation that would balance national security, innovation, consumer protection, privacy, and economic growth.

The workshop therefore served as an avenue for participants to exchange perspectives and deepen their understanding of the evolving relationship between technology, public policy, legislation, and regulation.

“ NILDS has become a more visible and responsive partner to the National Assembly. ”
